This means:
-
Applying the principles of sustainable development in the planning, design, operation and decommissioning of our facilities and services;
-
Developing management systems and empowering our employees to ensure that environmental factors are included in the balance of our entire decision making;
-
Leading the drive with our staff and business partners to achieve environmental improvement through the effective communication of our policy and standards;
-
Engaging in an open dialogue with local communities and others affected by the environmental performance of our business;
-
Challenging our overall environmental performance through benchmarking, targeting, auditing and public reporting of results; and
-
Ensuring compliance with environmental regulations as a minimum standard for performance in all regions in which we operate.
ISO 14001:2004 Compliance
This policy is based on principles applied against each of the requirements of ISO 14001:2004. Our management system relates to all areas of the activities carried out at the premises of VINCI Park Services UK Ltd at its Head Office and comprehensively reviewed at least once every twelve months in order to ensure continuous improvement, compliance with all legal or other identified requirements which relate to our environmental aspects, and to re-affirm the company’s commitment to the prevention of pollution and reduction in waste and emissions.
Key Performance areas will include:
Transport
All vehicles proposed by VINCI Park will be environmentally friendly, and operate within anti-pollution regulations at all times. VINCI Park always endeavours to propose vehicles that operate on Bio diesel fuel, electricity, liquid petroleum gas (LPG) or alternative green fuels. We will work in conjunction with the leading UK suppliers to trial ‘Green’ scooters, one of which operates on LPG (liquid petroleum gas) and the other on electricity – rechargeable battery power.
Additionally, we will strive to make all vehicles used on our contracts environmentally friendly and where practicable utilise bicycles as often as possible. Recovery trucks have been fitted with high quality carbon filter traps to ensure they meet with the very strict London LEZ (London Emission Zone) regulations. Furthermore, in 2011 we will be renewing existing recovery vehicles to meet with the new upgraded London LEZ emission limits, which are set to come into force during January 2012.
Energy Consumption and Renewal of Resources
All VINCI Park employees are asked to conserve gas, electricity, and water, and to separate environmental waste. We will strive to implement new ways of minimising waste by including on our parking premises recycling bins for paper, aluminium and steel cans and glass and plastic bottles, encouraging both our employees and members of the public to make use of these facilities. Our car parks will all operate an energy efficient lighting system that utilises half the normal power required on other car parks.
Management of Parking Infrastructure
VINCI Park Services UK Ltd employees on patrol will report observations of excessive litter, unlicensed trading, broken pavement stones, noise pollution and any other environmental issues for the information to be passed on to the relevant department. Our area of expertise is such that we are also fully capable of undertaking any work that includes renewals of street or car park lines or signs for the safety of the public. We will use up to date software, which allows our parking attendants to record this information using handheld technology and to enforce where necessary on behalf of the Clients.
Any buildings that need to be used in conjunction with the services that we provide will also comply fully with all building regulations.
Crime
The uniformed presence of our staff on patrol will act as a deterrent to crime and the fear of crime. The aim is for acts of vandalism, graffiti and litter dropping to decrease. We work closely with our Clients and the Police to achieve Safer Parking Scheme ‘Park Mark’ Award status at all our car parks.
Recycling
As part of our continued commitment to the environment we actively participate in paper, plastic, aluminium and toner cartridge recycling, forming an integral part of our Environmental commitment.
Global Warming
Our Environmental Strategy is in line with the Government’s policy to counter global warming by reducing carbon emissions and will consider the recent White Paper on the Future of Transport. Our methods of parking enforcement will reduce vehicular movement in sometimes already very congested areas, and on the whole will cut down the number of vehicles responsible for these emissions.
