New car park opens at Broadgreen

Broadgreen hospital car park

Today saw the official opening of a desperately needed new 760-space decked car park at Broadgreen Hospital in Liverpool.

To mark the occasion, a marquee reception on the roof of the new car park was attended by representatives from VINCI Park and from the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen Hospital Trusts.  VINCI Park's International Director, Philippe Princet, presented a courtesy minibus to the Trust, which will be used to transport staff and visitors around the site.  In addition, the car park was awarded with the 'Park Mark' Safer Parking Award by the Association of Chief Police Officers.

The new car park was designed, built and financed by VINCI Park and its sister company Norwest Holst, as part of a 15-year Public Private Partnership contract with the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen Hospital Trust.

As the hospital had to continue providing parking for patients, staff and visitors during construction it was essential to minimise any disruption. This was achieved by planning every aspect of construction carefully to provide a phased approach that ensured minimal disruption. This meant that no more than 100 of the original spaces were ever unavailable.

A further unusual approach was the unique design and construction of the car park. It was conceived to be modular in form, to provide the future-proof option of expansion to accommodate 1400 spaces through the addition of an extra deck.

Now all 13 of the other surface car parks have been refurbished to significantly improve standards to bring the service up to a level that meets (or exceeds) the expectations of staff and visitors.
