Major capital investment for UWIC

University of Wales Institute Cardiff car park

VINCI Park UK won the contract in September to refurbish and manage car parks used  by the 7,000 students of the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff.

One of the major challenges was the tight schedule.  The contract was awarded early in September and all works had to be completed by the second week in October (before the term started).  With just six weeks to complete the work before term started, VINCI Park UK undertook to make major capital improvements that would significantly improve the parking infrastructure across UWIC’s car parks.

To minimise disruption and inconvenience, VINCI park arranged 1400 m2 of temporary parking using an innovative product that created an additional (and critical) 52 spaces — a major factor in controlling parking at UWIC’s Llandaff campus.

VINCI Park is now responsible for the management of all car parks across four campuses and one residential site, which involves:

  • Enforcement of all car parks
  • Providing assistance to all drivers
  • Helping to provide a safe and secure environment for the car park users.
  • Helping to maintain traffic flow on all sites.
  • Ensuring that Pay and Display machines are in full working order.
  • Collecting, counting and banking cash from all Pay and Display machines
  • Providing an on-site attendant to help and supervise parking

Phillip Herring, Commercial Director (Concessions & Services) commented: “We are committed to providing an improved service that will not only make parking safer and easier, but that will also enhance the image of the University of Wales Institute.”

The project was successfully completed on time and to budget.
